Chris first became a part of the Vintage Hotels family in 1989 when he started as a summer apprentice in our kitchens. For several years, he diversified his culinary experience while working in high-energy kitchens of the Niagara Region, including Riverbend Inn & Vineyard and Queen’s Landing. In 2011, Chris’ creativity, hard work, and dedication to highlighting the charm of Niagara’s bounty earned him the spot of Executive Chef at Prince of Wales.
For the past several years, Chris has continued to craft his art and please even the most particular guests. He does this by continually adapting his menus to the changing demands of local clients and visitors to the Greenbelt. Foodies from far and wide celebrate Chef Smythe’s innovative approach to cooking, but it’s Chris’ dedication to preserving the integrity of local ingredients that he is most proud of.
A commitment to celebrating Niagara’s bounty
Throughout his extensive experience as a chef, Chris has remained committed to a farm-to-table approach to his cuisine. He shares, “I give guests a taste of Niagara – a little piece of what we’re all about.” For Chris, this means ensuring that his dishes always feature seasonal produce and pay homage to the hardworking farmers who produce some of the region’s most incredible ingredients.
