The Shaw Festival runs April 9 to Oct 16 in Niagara-on-the-Lake

Niagara on the Lake Shaw Festival

April 9 – October 16, 2016

One of our favourite events in Niagara-on-the-Lake is nearly here: The Shaw Festival. Running from April 9 to October 16, 2016, the festival features incredible theatre and is a great reason to visit Niagara-on-the-Lake as the weather gets warm.

This immensely popular festival is inspired by the works of George Bernard Shaw and his contemporaries. Each year, the plays are carefully chosen to best celebrate the works of other Shavian playwrights, writers whose work challenges the status quo in the same way that Shaw’s did.

The Shaw Festival started in 1962 and has continued to grow in popularity since then, with attendees coming from across the region and even internationally to enjoy the performances. Now, the festival is larger than ever, with performances in four theatres across Niagara-on-the-Lake. The largest theatre is the Festival Theatre and with 856 seats, it still offers an intimate setting to watch a show. With such incredible performances and shows to choose from, it’s no wonder that last year over 250,000 visitors came to experience the festival!

This year’s playbill offers a wide variety of shows that the entire family will enjoy. Children will love experiencing Alice in Wonderland while adults with a dark sense of humour will relish in Sweeny Todd. With comedies, dramas and everything in between, we know you’ll find a show you’ll love. Tickets are available to purchase now and we suggest buying as early as possible so you have a large selection of seats to choose from.
